We could not possibly thank you enough for helping to make this Underwear Drive Fundraising event successful. This past drive began in September and ran through October, 2016. Thanks to your generous giving, $1927.77 had been raised. Without your help, this total would not have been realized.
On Tuesday, December 20, 2016, Cornerstone Community Church attended an evening chapel service at the Union Rescue Mission (URM) in Downtown Los Angeles. As some of you are aware of, Cornerstone has been a donor of socks and underwear to the Mission by way of an annual fundraising drive. Cornerstone began fundraising at the end of 2000 and attended their first distribution to their residents in February, 2001. This began Cornerstone’s 25-year partnership opportunity to administer and fellowship as a congregation with URM’s residents.
For many years, the purpose of our fundraiser was to purchase and distribute socks and underwear for the men at Los Angeles’ Union Rescue Mission. Sadly, the number of homeless has dramatically increased, including a tremendous rise in the number of women, children, and seniors.
The Union Rescue Mission, founded in 1891, provides Emergency Services and Shelter as well as, Clinics, Clothing, a Day Center, a Family Community Center, a Hospitality Center, Individual Assessment and Counseling, Life Management Classes, Personal Hygiene Services and Spiritual Encouragement, which includes Daily Chapel Services. URM is currently in need of volunteers and donations, both monetary and clothing.
Because of your generosity, socks and blankets were purchased. This was the suggestion of URM to better benefit all current occupants. Unfortunately, we were about twenty blankets short, an incentive for next year’s drive.
Once again, thank you and God bless you for your willingness to be a blessing to others by giving and sharing with those less fortunate than yourselves.
